But this time, the stakes weren&#8217;t pre-scripted personal drama. Pratt used the stage to hammer Mayor Karen Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman over homelessness, crime, public disorder, illegal immigration and the failures surrounding the devastating Palisades Fire.</p><p>In one viral exchange, Pratt <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/05/07/spencer-pratt-nithya-raman-karen-bass-los-angeles-mayoral-debate-california-homeless-palisades-fire/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">challenged</a></strong> Raman&#8217;s approach to homelessness, offering to go &#8220;below the freeway&#8221; with her to find the people she wants to &#8220;offer treatment&#8221; to &#8212; before bluntly warning, &#8220;She&#8217;s going to get stabbed in the neck.&#8221; The point? LA&#8217;s leaders sell sanitized policy &#8220;solutions&#8221; while residents live with the dangerous reality.</p><p>In one of the debate&#8217;s <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/05/07/spencer-pratt-mayor-bass-wildfires/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">sharpest moments</a></strong>, Pratt confronted Bass over her administration&#8217;s wildfire response, accusing the city of leaving firefighters without the resources they needed as parts of LA burned.</p><p>He was just as direct when asked whether non-citizens should vote in U.S. elections. Pratt was the <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/05/07/spencer-pratt-mayoral-debate-illegals-voting/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">only person</a></strong> to give a clear &#8220;no,&#8221; while Bass and Raman gave waffling, mealy-mouthed answers.</p><p>Pratt&#8217;s viral campaign ads have turned his personal loss from the Palisades Fire into a broader indictment of LA&#8217;s political class. Even mainstream media outlets had to admit he had a breakout moment. Vanity Fair noted that Pratt needed to prove he could do more than &#8220;farm outrage online&#8221; &#8212; and, &#8220;for stretches&#8221; of the debate, did exactly that.</p><p>For Bass and Raman, the debate was supposed to expose Pratt as a celebrity sideshow.</p><p>Instead, Pratt turned the cameras back on them.</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;815efd90-ceb6-4d66-bf4a-58e71ccaf1ed&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: LA REALITY CHECK&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-05-08T10:03:24.402Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!HTKP!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5e106bac-1674-4a1e-913e-8e7bdbfc52bf_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-la-reality-check&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:196824482,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:19,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? Tate Reeves opened the door to redrawing multiple electoral maps after the Supreme Court&#8217;s <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/04/29/supreme-court-voting-right-act-louisiana-v-callais-redistricting-louisiana/">decision</a></strong> in <em>Louisiana v. Callais</em> nuked race-based districting.</p><p>Reeves said Mississippi is juggling three redistricting fights: Supreme Court districts, congressional districts and state legislative districts.</p><p>&#8220;In Mississippi, it&#8217;s a little bit more complicated,&#8221; Reeves said, noting the state is already in a Section 2 Voting Rights Act case.</p><p>The most immediate issue is Mississippi&#8217;s state Supreme Court map. Reeves has called a <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/04/25/mississippi-governor-tate-reeves-special-session-redraw-electoral-maps-supreme-court-callais/">special session</a></strong> to address those districts if a federal judge forces lawmakers to redraw them.</p><p>But he made clear he can expand that call to &#8220;other redistricting matters.&#8221;</p><p>Translation: congressional and legislative maps could also be on the table.</p><p>Mississippi currently has one majority-minority congressional district, represented by Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson. Reeves said lawmakers are likely to revisit whether that map still passes muster after <em>Callais</em>.</p><p>&#8220;We know that Mississippi&#8217;s majority-minority district was drawn race-consciously,&#8221; Reeves said. &#8220;I anticipate that the Mississippi Legislature certainly will reevaluate our state&#8217;s congressional map at the earliest opportunity that they have.&#8221;</p><p>The timing is a bit messy. Unlike other Southern states, Mississippi already held its 2026 party primaries, so officials are weighing whether any new congressional map would apply in 2026 or 2028.</p><p>Reeves also accused the ACLU, NAACP and <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/04/21/splc-under-criminal-doj-investigation/">Southern Poverty Law Center</a></strong> of using racial gerrymandering to boost Democrats in the South.</p><p>&#8220;100%,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I absolutely believe that that has been their goal: to grow the power of the Democrat Party.&#8221;</p><p>Now Mississippi may become the next state to test just how far <em>Callais</em> goes.</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;e5141bc3-4e90-4b39-9f15-cd5a9d4e03fe&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: MISSISSIPPI'S LINE DANCE&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-05-07T10:01:26.321Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!-4Fz!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F021f0c5e-c1e6-40b6-be1b-5c30e599e21f_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-mississippis-line&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:196706445,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:21,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? Sources told the Caller that directives to reduce crime numbers were &#8220;pervasive from the top, all the way down.&#8221; One method was that responding officers were required to call supervisors on scene to be able to charge someone with a violent crime, the sources said. Officers were sometimes berated in front of their colleagues when violent crime numbers in their area were considered too high, they explained.</p><p>However, the wave of actions ostensibly taken against crime statistics manipulation Tuesday may be little more than CYA, a source familiar told the Caller &#8230;</p><p><em>To continue reading this newsletter, including exclusive reporting on the DC crime stat investigation, Alito shutting down Jackson, and a curious photo of a Cuban map, please become a paid subscriber.</em></p><p>Commander Pulliam, the source said, was &#8220;literally the only police official in DC that actually cared about solving crime.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Chief Smith used the stats as a pretense to terminate [Commander Pulliam],&#8221; the source explained. &#8220;As I understand it, a complete power move by Smith to shut down dissent in the ranks. [Pulliam had] risen incredibly quickly on leading successful proactive policing initiatives as Captain and Inspector.&#8221;</p><p>The source added, &#8220;Unfortunately the union just wants scalps so they&#8217;re cheering everything even if it&#8217;s a whitewash.&#8221;</p><p>Smith also <strong><a href="https://www.police1.com/union/union-d-c-police-commander-was-involved-in-altering-crime-statistics-prior-to-suspension">reassigned</a></strong> Captain Rachel Pulliam, Commander Pulliam&#8217;s wife, from the Youth Division to a midnight shift last April.</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe now&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?"><span>Subscribe now</span></a></p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;9fa578ba-12a0-44d4-bde5-46d7b268b6f5&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: DC CRIME AND UNJUST PUNISHMENT&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-05-06T10:03:03.676Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!zWIh!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F9ef81bcb-7152-4204-b6f0-c89b5581527e_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-dc-crime-and-unjust&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:196586463,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:21,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? JB Pritzker is strategically dumping money into major Democratic committees and campaigns that signal deep interest in a 2028 presidential run, according to exclusive Daily Caller <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/05/04/illinois-governor-jb-pritzker-bankrolling-democrats-fec-records-presidential-run-2028/">reporting</a></strong>.</p><p>Pritzker has given six and seven-figure sums to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and also appears to be throwing his financial weight around key Democrats in what would be early primary states for a presidential contest.</p><p>&#8220;It is notable that almost all of the House Democrats being financially backed by Pritzker either hold vulnerable seats in red states, are key allies of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, or are senior lawmakers in early Democratic Party presidential primary states,&#8221; Daily Caller Senior Politics Editor Will Upton reported.</p><p>The major donations, political strategists told the Caller, suggest Pritzker is trying to buy early support from Democratic leadership before he squares off against potential primary opponents like Govs. Gavin Newsom of California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.</p><p class="button-wrapper" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?coupon=d809f951&amp;utm_content=196568808&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Get 50% off for 1 month&quot;,&quot;action&quot;:null,&quot;class&quot;:null}" data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton"><a class="button primary" href="https://stateoftheday.us/subscribe?coupon=d809f951&amp;utm_content=196568808"><span>Get 50% off for 1 month</span></a></p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;8fa31f7a-a8b3-474d-b3fa-3274da82a2c0&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: PRITZKER'S DEEP POCKETS&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-05-05T10:03:18.592Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!Ps-L!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fdc2d9c2e-4f3c-4374-92b0-45765f875c9f_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-pritzkers-deep-pockets&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:196483377,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:17,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? Saudi Arabia, OPEC&#8217;s de facto leader, will now have a weaker hand in managing global oil prices as the UAE signals it wants more freedom to increase production &#8212; a move that could eventually push prices lower outside the cartel&#8217;s grip.</p><p>Bigger picture, the move suggests the UAE may be positioning itself even more firmly alongside the United States and other anti-Iran powers in the region. One side effect of Trump&#8217;s confrontation with Iran is that it could reorder the Middle East, with U.S.-aligned states breaking away from old regional arrangements and lining up more openly against Tehran. That would mark a major strategic shift: instead of the Middle East being defined primarily by old oil-cartel loyalties or cautious neutrality, it could increasingly be divided between countries willing to work with Washington and countries tied to Iran, China, or Russia.</p><p>And with Maduro ousted in Venezuela and Washington asserting extraordinary influence over the country&#8217;s oil sector, Trump could be laying the groundwork for a new global oil order &#8212; one that weakens China&#8217;s energy leverage and shifts power back toward the United States. Put together, Trump may be doing something bigger than winning a war: he may be cornering the global oil market and prying it out of China&#8217;s hands.</p><div><hr></div><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;34f2f5f7-9a78-48fa-a489-1fc3827a813a&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: TRUMP DRILLS BEIJING&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-04-29T10:01:41.320Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!TCAs!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F147250a9-ea11-4b61-ba29-bc3e7db32f6e_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-trump-drills-beijing&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:195807372,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:30,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:false,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? In it, he called the president &#8220;a pedophile, rapist, and traitor,&#8221; adding, &#8220;I would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary (on the basis that most people *chose* to attend a speech by a pedophile, rapist, and traitor, and are thus complicit) but I really hope it doesn&#8217;t come to that.&#8221;</p><p>Allen also had a BlueSky account where he <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/04/26/sociopathic-mob-boss-whcd-shooter-reportedly-made-slew-of-anti-trump-posts-on-bluesky-account/">referred</a></strong> to Trump as a &#8220;sociopathic mob boss&#8221; and a &#8220;known traitor.&#8221;</p><p>The alleged gunman&#8217;s vendetta against the president led to the dinner ending in chaos: some journalists swiping bottles of wine off tables, others sprinting to the White House for a presser with Trump in the briefing room, and Erika Kirk leaving the venue sobbing &#8212; just about six months after her husband was assassinated on a live stream.</p><p>And about 30 minutes after the shots rang out, my husband and I were in an Uber headed downtown&#8230;</p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;52b08104-b8f3-4d70-9095-747b61cb3f18&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: ALL DRESSED UP WITH NOWHERE TO GO DURING THE WHCD SHOOTING&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-04-27T13:35:27.943Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!2VJR!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F174bb5d0-e900-43d7-84de-b37fc99558de_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-all-dressed-up-with&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:195625300,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:21,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? Patrick Ruffini, the pollster for Echelon Insights, <strong><a href="https://x.com/PatrickRuffini/status/2046922817573097781">noted</a></strong> that the &#8220;lobster district&#8221; &#8212; which I wrote about in yesterday&#8217;s newsletter &#8212; only voted in favor of the ballot initiative by 0.3 points. The newly drawn district voted seven points in favor of former Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.</p><p>&#8220;Dummymander incoming?&#8221; Ruffini wondered.</p><p>Matt Whitlock, a Republican strategist and communicator, <strong><a href="https://x.com/MattWhitlock/status/2046941324247445533">pointed out</a></strong> that Republicans got three of the newly drawn districts to vote against the gerrymandered map, even though they were expected to only win one. In addition to the deep red 9th district, Republicans also managed to win the 2nd and 6th districts.</p><p>&#8220;This is pretty amazing,&#8221; Whitlock wrote. &#8220;Democrats leaned so heavily on Fairfax to drive the entire referendum, but Republicans actually drove enough turnout to win 3 of the new districts, got &#8216;The Lobster&#8217; within 0.3, and 2 others blue districts within 5.&#8221;</p><p>It could be that the proposed new map was just so obviously unfair that a bunch of moderates or center-left voters in those districts voted against it. Or GOP voters were motivated to turn out. It could also be a sign that the Democrat brand is incredibly damaged in Virginia &#8230; just five months after Governor Abigail Spanberger defeated her Republican opponent by 15 points.</p><p>All that being said, this gerrymander is going to face a long battle in the courts. Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli laid out potential areas for legal challenges and in a tweet Wednesday said that the Tazewell Circuit Court rendered the referendum <strong><a href="https://x.com/KenCuccinelli/status/2047035309691375844">unconstitutional</a></strong>. The election cannot be certified, which means the map can&#8217;t go into effect &#8212; although Cuccinelli said he expects an appeal. I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if this ends up at the Virginia Supreme Court.</p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;1dfc45f3-86e0-45e1-a9a8-9699a41b3ab3&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: DEMOCRAT DUMMYMANDER&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-04-23T10:01:23.739Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!wiL8!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fb70a26d0-322a-4414-9f56-3b504850338c_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-democrat-dummymander&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:195190159,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:20,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? Eric Swalwell is reaping what he sowed years after he demanded politicians &#8220;Believe Survivors&#8221; amid the Kavanaugh hearings.</p><p>Swalwell ended his bid for California governor and announced he is resigning from Congress after a former staffer accused him of engaging in sexual activity with her when she was too drunk to consent. He claims the allegations are false but didn&#8217;t want to be a distraction in Congress.</p><p>In 2018, though, Swalwell repeatedly demanded his Republican colleagues believe Christine Blasey Ford, who accused then Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were in high school.</p><p>&#8220;What rang of truth from Dr. Ford? A lot of it,&#8221; Swalwell <strong><a href="https://x.com/DataRepublican/status/2042943118543053249">tweeted</a></strong> in October 2018. &#8220;But her description of #Kavanaugh struggling to take her clothes off because she had a one-piece bathing suit on &#8212; that is clearly burned in her memory. And a fact only a survivor would remember. #BelieveSurvivors&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Support survivors. Believe survivors. We are with you,&#8221; he tweeted in November 2018.</p><p>Swalwell also said that subsequent Kavanaugh accusers deserved to have their stories heard.</p><p>Few Democrats publicly called on Swalwell to resign, but Rep. Andy Ogles suggested Monday that there may have been a deal in the works to trade two Republican expulsions for Swalwell and another Democrat.</p><p>&#8220;I think Swalwell is almost certain to happen,&#8221; Ogles told Benny Johnson before Swalwell resigned, <strong><a href="https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/2043781052892643465">adding</a></strong> that the House could also remove Democratic Florida Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who is accused of breaking campaign finance laws, alongside Republican Florida Rep. Cory Mills, who is accused of assaulting a woman, and Republican Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales, who allegedly had an affair with a member of his staff before she died by self-immolation.</p><p>Mills allegedly <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2025/09/18/cory-mills-nancy-mace-greg-casar-ilhan-omar-censure-donald-trump/">previously refused</a></strong> to vote to censure Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar because he was worried Democrats would turn around and censure him. Yet again, Mills and Cherfilus-McCormick were spared. Gonzales announced he was resigning from Congress shortly after Swalwell.</p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>CONTINUE READING</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;7657d156-7262-48ce-8fac-08a7629c8831&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: SWALWELL'S #METOO PROBLEM AND A DEM SENATE CANDIDATE'S FISHY FUNDRAISING&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-04-14T10:01:21.827Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!4ioR!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Ffc291416-e7bb-41d1-8ae5-f0bdbb53edcb_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-swalwells-metoo-problem&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:194137304,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:30,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? The things that I say are certainly not meant as attacks on anyone. The message of the Gospel is very clear: &#8216;Blessed are the peacemakers.&#8217;&#8221;</p><p>He added, &#8220;I will not shy away from announcing the message of the Gospel and inviting all people to look for ways of building bridges of peace and reconciliation, and looking for ways to avoid war any time that&#8217;s possible.&#8221;</p><p>Trump added fuel to the fire by <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/04/13/trump-posts-image-jesus-healing-pope/">reposting</a></strong> what appeared to be an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ healing the sick.</p><p>The president&#8217;s post about Pope Leo and depiction of himself as Jesus lead to condemnation from Christians.</p><p>Women&#8217;s sports activist Riley Gaines <strong><a href="https://x.com/Riley_Gaines_/status/2043631814963503150">wrote</a></strong> on X, &#8220;I cannot understand why he&#8217;d post this &#8230; God shall not be mocked.&#8221;</p><p>Conservative Christian activist Sean Feucht said, &#8220;This should be deleted immediately. There&#8217;s no context where this is acceptable.&#8221;</p><p>The post also follows a story from The Free Press that claimed Trump officials tacitly threatened and bullied Pope Leo&#8217;s former ambassador to the U.S. in a February meeting. The Pentagon and the Vatican both released <strong><a href="https://dailycaller.com/2026/04/10/vatican-pentagon-reports-jd-vance-hostile-catholic/">statements</a></strong> claiming that the details of the meeting were fabrications. The statements, which were released in relatively short succession, seemed to quell rumors that the Trump administration was feuding with the Vatican, however, Trump&#8217;s attack on Pope Leo has complicated that picture.</p><p>There are also questions surrounding the potential political ramifications of Trump&#8217;s comments. The president won the majority of Catholic voters in 2024 after losing them to former President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Working class Catholics were an especially important part of Trump&#8217;s winning coalition.</p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;a20e1f07-abd3-4c46-97f2-9c8a4e7d2916&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: TRUMP ATTACKS THE POPE &amp; SWALWELL'S FAREWELL&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-04-13T16:30:05.246Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!eWhE!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F08aaebe1-fa77-4cc7-8c1d-f24cc252af91_4000x2663.jpeg&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-trump-attacks-the&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:194089636,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:26,&quot;comment_count&quot;:3,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post? Colby allegedly warned Cardinal Pierre that the U.S. had the military power to do whatever it wanted and that the Catholic Church better get on board.</p><p>The meeting supposedly intensified, and one U.S. official allegedly invoked the Avignon Papacy, when a series of popes were under the influence of the French Crown.</p><p>The Vatican Embassy confirmed the meeting took place but did not offer any details on its tone. The Pentagon described The Free Press&#8217; account as &#8220;highly exaggerated and distorted.&#8221; Vice President JD Vance, a Catholic convert, said he had <strong><a href="https://x.com/atrupar/status/2041966507110850749">not read</a></strong> the report but had met Cardinal Pierre before and would like to talk to him about what may have happened.</p><p>As the story made the rounds though, there were signs that it may have indeed been &#8220;exaggerated.&#8221; JD Flynn, the editor of The Pillar, a well respected Catholic media outlet, said his team had been unable to confirm that the meeting occurred as The Free Press described it.</p><p>&#8220;That shouldn&#8217;t lead anyone to a conclusion of any kind,&#8221; Flynn wrote. &#8220;Except that your pals down at the pillar haven&#8217;t confirmed this report.&#8221;</p><p>Then Brian Burch, the ambassador to the Holy See, said Thursday afternoon that he <strong><a href="https://x.com/BrianBurchUSA/status/2042307511504519366">spoke directly</a></strong> with Cardinal Pierre.</p><p>&#8220;As expected, he confirmed that recent media characterizations of his meeting with Undersecretary Colby are &#8216;fabrications&#8217; that were &#8216;just invented,&#8217;&#8221; Burch wrote. &#8220;Given the intelligence and seriousness of Mr. Colby, I was likewise not surprised when His Eminence acknowledged there were no threats of any kind in the meeting.&#8221;</p><p>Burch added that Cardinal Pierre described the meeting as &#8220;frank and cordial&#8221; and that a threat of Avignon never occurred.</p><p>Jonathan Liedl, the managing editor of the National Catholic Register, raised some further red flags in The Free Press&#8217; report.</p><p>&#8220;None of the sources upon which the story is based were apparently even at the meeting. They were &#8216;briefed&#8217; on it. So we get little floating nuggets like &#8216;the Avignon papacy was invoked!&#8217; without needed context,&#8221; he <strong><a href="https://x.com/JLLiedl/status/2042271729762865458">wrote</a></strong> in a X thread.</p><p>&#8220;To confirm dramatic characterizations of the meeting and some alleged reference to Avignon, you certainly should [speak to someone who was there]. If you don&#8217;t, it runs the risk of looking like gossip,&#8221; he added.</p><div><hr></div><h3><strong>KEEP READING:</strong></h3><div class="digest-post-embed" data-attrs="{&quot;nodeId&quot;:&quot;53fd9f79-1aed-49e9-85ee-70342f2d3e04&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;cta&quot;:&quot;Read full story&quot;,&quot;showBylines&quot;:true,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;lg&quot;,&quot;isEditorNode&quot;:true,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print: CATHOLICS ARE FIGHTING AGAIN WHILE DEM TRIES TO REINSTATE DREADED TSA POLICY&quot;,&quot;publishedBylines&quot;:[{&quot;id&quot;:91309548,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke&quot;,&quot;bio&quot;:&quot;Amber Duke is the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller and a co-host of Reason's \&quot;Free Media.\&quot; She previously served as cohost of The Hill&#8217;s &#8220;Rising,&#8221; Washington Editor of The Spectator and was the White House Correspondent for the Daily Caller.&quot;,&quot;photo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/de083280-2ec1-47a9-a436-9a137d9e1128_1054x1054.jpeg&quot;,&quot;is_guest&quot;:false,&quot;bestseller_tier&quot;:100}],&quot;post_date&quot;:&quot;2026-04-10T11:03:15.640Z&quot;,&quot;cover_image&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!rVav!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fda14172d-cb90-4ea8-a675-2cda5098d6ca_2400x1600.png&quot;,&quot;cover_image_alt&quot;:null,&quot;canonical_url&quot;:&quot;https://stateoftheday.us/p/unfit-to-print-catholics-are-fighting&quot;,&quot;section_name&quot;:&quot;Unfit to Print&quot;,&quot;video_upload_id&quot;:null,&quot;id&quot;:193733723,&quot;type&quot;:&quot;newsletter&quot;,&quot;reaction_count&quot;:27,&quot;comment_count&quot;:0,&quot;publication_id&quot;:6361003,&quot;publication_name&quot;:&quot;State of the Day&quot;,&quot;publication_logo_url&quot;:&quot;https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!WpLm!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcadc6152-0913-4e8b-8d5d-96faf5f7825a_801x801.png&quot;,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;youtube_url&quot;:null,&quot;show_links&quot;:null,&quot;feed_url&quot;:null}"></div><div><hr></div><p>Enjoyed this post?
