People ask me all the time what it’s like to travel with the president. What the plane looks like, what the atmosphere feels like, whether it’s as surreal as it sounds. I love answering those questions. I could talk about covering the White House for hours.
But right now, I want to talk about the food.
I’m not a foodie. At all. I don’t have a go-to restaurant critic or strong opinions about tasting menus.
But what I do have is a genuine, almost embarrassing enthusiasm for the meals served aboard Air Force One. And when my editors cleared me to join President Trump on a two-day trip to Las Vegas and Phoenix last week, the food was, honestly, what I was looking forward to most.
The moment I stepped onto the aircraft, something was already cooking. Something warm and hearty.
Standing there in the aisle, carry-on in hand, a thought occurred to me. I have to do a food review.
–
A quick disclaimer: every meal on Air Force One deserves a perfect score. The food is exceptional, full stop. But a review where everything gets a 10/10 isn’t a review. That’s called a press release. So in the interest of doing actual journalism, I will be holding these dishes to a high standard. I will be, perhaps unreasonably, harsh. Points will be deducted.
Let’s eat.
