Poll after poll has shown that Republicans – particularly those who identify as “MAGA” Republicans – either support or strongly support President Trump’s decision to launch the Iran war. But should we consider these polls with a grain of salt? Should we be skeptical that they are fully representative of the Republican Party and the MAGA base?
Polling snapshots can be hazy or outright misleading. Famously, pollsters in 2016 failed to account for the “silent” Trump voter because, for many, supporting Trump at the time was considered taboo. There was a time in GOP politics when referring to illegal immigration as a “foreign invasion” was way out of the mainstream, as was admitting that the Iraq War was a “big, fat mistake.”
Are pollsters once again missing a huge block of voters too afraid to speak out because of social stigma? Is there a silent majority of true “America First” voters, those skeptical of America’s relationship with Israel and opposed to this war, that pollsters are missing entirely?
