SNATCHING DEFEAT
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley dropped several bombs Tuesday on Jack Smith, the special prosecutor under Biden’s DOJ who led the classified documents case against President Donald Trump.
First, documents obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller undercut Smith’s stated pretext for investigating Trump’s retention of classified documents.
Smith originally claimed that after the National Archives’s internal watchdog discovered the documents were at Mar-a-Lago, they sent a criminal referral to the DOJ. However, the new documents show that the National Archives did not consider its notice to the DOJ to be a criminal referral.
Even more stunning, though, was another reveal from Grassley: in the course of his investigation, Smith subpoenaed the checks of nearly 5,000 Trump supporters, including many who gave small-dollar donations to the president.
What exactly was Smith doing with thousands of Trump supporters’ donation checks? Was he perhaps trying to build some kind of sprawling conspiracy or RICO case against the president and his supporters?
Those seem like fairly important questions.
Unfortunately, one GOP senator made such an ass out of himself during the hearing that he managed to pull everyone’s attention away from what actually mattered.
