State of Monday: YET ANOTHER BIZARRE MEMORIAL
Truly an upstanding example of civic leadership. Truly this must be a joke.
Greetings, Dear Reader,
I’m late to this one, but I want to cover it anyhow.
Before I get to it, a quick note: I’ll be out starting this Wednesday until the following Tuesday.
So no SOTD until then. Hopefully you won’t be paying attention anyway because you’ll be around family.
Welp, shall we?
YET ANOTHER BIZARRE MEMORIAL
Admittedly I’m a bit late to this one, but it’s going viral online today.
Apparently, 22-year-old Barry Washington missed a bunch of wildly obvious hints, and now he’s dead. He’s dead because 27-year-old Ian Cranston shot him a single time outside a bar in Bend, Oregon.
Cranston has been behind bars now for a few years, but a few weeks ago an appeals court overturned his conviction and ordered a new trial. The court based its ruling on the fact that the trial judge didn’t properly instruct the jury. She failed to inform them that Cranston had no obligation to run away from Washington, who had been the clear aggressor, according to several videos of the altercation.
It should be a blemish for the judge who oversaw the first trial, but of course it won’t be, because, and it needs to be said, Washington is black and Cranston is white and all this occurred within earshot of Black Lives Matter taking over our culture.
Again, I can’t believe I’m just catching this now, so please forgive me.
Here are the facts of the case:
Cranston and his fiancée went out to a bar in Oregon. Cranston had a concealed carry license and brought his gun with him. During the night, Washington approached Cranston’s lady and began hitting on her. She politely passed. He continued. She passed again.
Later, Cranston got involved, telling Washington to buzz off. I’m sure words were exchanged here, as men tend to do.
Outside the bar, Washington again made a pass. Cranston got heated.
At this point, it should also be noted that Cranston had one other friend with him. Washington had three, according to reports.
Washington, video of the altercation showed, became highly agitated. He throttled Cranston in the face twice. Cranston revealed his firearm. Washington assaulted Cranston once more. Cranston discharged a single round, striking Washington.
When police arrived at the scene, Washington’s bravado had given way, as the introduction of new holes in your torso tends to do. He was quoted as saying, “I want to go home.”
It’s a heartbreaking quote, if you’ve ever been in a trauma center in combat. It’s one you hear frequently from people who know they’re dying.
Cranston was immediately compliant with the officers. He flat-out said it was him who did it, adding that “he didn’t even want” to be in the situation.
There are various unverified claims going around. One is that Washington was over three times the legal limit. Another is that Cranston shouted racial epithets. Similarly, people on the right claim Washington called Cranston “white boy” several times.
Video of the altercation has been stripped from social media and public display because Black Lives Matter activists went nuts when it was posted and even physically intimidated reporters at the courthouse. If you ask me, it’s because the organization has a history of flat out inventing myths around dead black guys and recorded reality is inconvenient to that end. The most obvious example is “hands up don’t shoot” and Michael Brown, but the same could be said of illustrious Dr. George Floyd, a renowned PhD in economics (obvi joking, guys, c’mon).
Washington’s mother did what so many other mothers have done in this exact scenario: Pretended their sons were not at fault, made it about race, fictionalized the altercation to make it seem like a lynching, and launched a public pressure campaign to imprison the victim, in this case, Ian Cranston.
And the media was more than willing.
Look at this travesty of a headline:
And who called the interaction “respectful”? The prosecutor. Have you ever encountered a highly respectful drunk hitting on a woman in a bar? Because I haven’t.
I assure you, journalists aren’t actually this stupid. Worse. They’ve got an agenda.
The saddest part of the write-up is it includes a booking photo of Cranston in which he clearly has two black eyes.
Nowhere in the article do we hear that Washington socked Cranston in the face three times. But the reporter wants readers to know that she really pressed the prosecutor.
“Why isn’t Cranston charged with a hate crime?” she asked.
The whole thing is the product of a sick society.
Complicating a new trial, which I’d bet Cranston wins, is the fact that the public gathered to unveil a memorial to Washington.
Let him be remembered for “politely” not taking the hint and hitting on a woman multiple times despite her protests, then punching her man in the face twice, then after seeing he had a gun, punching him again.
Truly a genius. Truly an upstanding example of civic leadership. Truly this must be a joke.
At risk of repeating myself, again the message urban justice systems are sending their people is quite clear.
Shut up and let this drunk black guy accost your girlfriend. Let this scholar attack you physically. Let this paragon of productivity ruin your night, your date, your marriage, your life.
Or we’ll put you behind bars.
The tide is turning on this fiction, however. People are tired of it. The normals have had about enough of the myths. The truth will triumph, I’m convinced. And though I’m not a betting man, I bet that Cranston’s sentence is vacated.
Memorialize that, scumbags.
