Every now and then someone does something so stupid, it’s truly hard to comprehend how they reasoned it out in the moment.
Virginia Democrats, welcome to State of the Day!
NO SENSE WHATSOEVER
As far as strategic blunders go, the latest from the Virginia Democrat Party is truly mystifying.
To catch you up: A Young Republicans’ chat leaked. In it, they said a bunch of mean and, yes, even bigoted words to each other. Reading the chats, I don’t get a sense these guys are card-carrying Nazis, but they at least think it’s cool and edgy to be casually racist in official communications.
The news resulted in immediate firings and condemnations. And it was easy to do, frankly, the chats were excruciatingly lame, not remotely funny, and demonstrated a crucial lack of judgment on official channels.
It also didn’t hurt that most of them were nonpublic persons, i.e., nobodies. I hadn’t heard of any of them. At least one of them is a GOP state senator in Vermont (lol).
The leak comes on the heels of another crucial text conversation made public, that of Democratic Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones. He fantasized about shooting a Republican in the head twice, killing the man’s wife and his kids, and he hoped more police would die. His express intent for these deaths was to achieve liberal policy goals.
Up until now, Democrats have basically said nothing, like this incredible full minute of awkward silence from Dem candidate for governor Abigail Spanberger. Otherwise, folks like Tim Kaine, a Virginia senator who was Hillary’s very special boy in 2016, cited Jones’s contrition and said the voters should decide.

You can criticize their public posture in the face of such obviously disqualifying language from a guy who wants to be the top law enforcement officer of the state, but at least you can admire their discipline. Nobody, and I mean nobody on the Democrat side of the aisle has pulled their endorsement or called for Jones to step down.
Then someone working in communications for VA Dems decided to Leeroy Jenkins the party.
Speaking of firings, whoever was involved in this press release has, like the Young Republicans, demonstrated a crucial lack of political judgment.
Sears instantly took the release and flipped it.
“Easy, they absolutely must step down,” she tweeted. “Now it’s your turn, Abigail.”
Political reporters marveled at the absolute stupidity.
Digging into the guts of the statement, honestly, I can make neither hide nor hair of the goal. I searched briefly for any Virginia Young Republicans who would be “joining” Thomas Turner. The whole point of Turner’s outcry was that he had himself been attacked in the chat. Who would be joining him? The press release doesn’t say, and I’m not convinced the people who wrote it even know exactly which people they want fired.
It’s a layered shit sandwich of stupid of the state party’s own making. Now they need to take a bite.
And why would they think this was smart? Easy, Democrat morality has been inverted in the past decade. Racism and wrongthink, real or even in jest, is the highest sin. The highest virtue: Assaulting and killing your political enemies.
Remember all the folks who wished Thomas Crooks had better aim? Well, Virginia liberals are no different.
A John Reid for Lt. Governor poll recently found that 93% of Virginia Dems are not offended by Jay Jones’s texts. My guess is though if you said the word “retarded” at a dinner party with any of these people, they’d promptly unlike and unsubscribe from your friendship.
And it’s not a guess, actually — I’ve lived in Northern Virginia now for more than 10 years. These are the same people who’d confront you for not wearing a mask to a grocery store in 2021. They’d insist you wanted people to die, shrieking in parking lots and cash register lines.
Jay Jones literally wishes death, however, and it’s no problem.
Let’s just state it flatly: It’s not a problem because Republicans dying, in murder or otherwise, is a moral good to them. Liberals getting fired for wishing Republicans would die? Well, c’mon now, that’s where they draw the line.
Remember in the long-ago times when breathless reporters wrote hysterical stories lamenting how many administrators, professors, teachers, doctors, lawyers and health care officials were getting fired because they decided to record themselves publicly praising the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
This is Republican “cancel culture,” they said, even though it wasn’t. These aren’t “resurfaced” tweets from 2010. They surfaced their own moral failings proudly! What’s more, I’d sure like to know if the person teaching my kids or administering drugs to my elderly family members took glee in the deaths of Republicans.
But you just have to look at the prevailing martyrs of each party to see how this morality plays out. Democrats immortalized George Floyd. Republicans Charlie Kirk. Democrats went to the mat for “Maryland Father” Abrego Garcia, likely an MS-13 human trafficker. Republicans lionized Pennsylvania father Corey Comperatore, a firefighter and father who died in the failed assassination of Trump.
On one side, you’ve got criminals who terrorize the population but fit the liberal hyper-racial worldview perfectly. On the other, you’ve got peaceful and productive people who simply disagree politically.
Virginia Democrats made this mistake because they truly believed they had a trump card. What’s worse than saying the N-word in a chat? Literally nothing, certainly not the murder of political enemies.
Yesterday, an activist judge gave stunning leniency to the teens who almost beat a DOGE official to death in Washington, D.C. They got off scot-free. Probation. She said her job was to “rehabilitate,” not punish.
Liberal commentators might shriek “whataboutism,” but regardless, the message is clear.
The highest virtue is assaulting and even killing conservatives, but so help you God if you say “fag” in a private chat that gets leaked.
