Greetings, Dear Reader,
I’m not a doomer, but let’s just say I wouldn’t be surprised.

‘VERY SOON’ – IRAN HITS TRUMP WHERE IT HURTS
Iran knows Trump’s biggest weakness.
In an open letter to Americans, the IRGC — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — encouraged voters to show Trump their disdain for the war in Iran at the ballot box.
“Remove from power the evil, deceitful, and violent politicians who are responsible for America’s current state,” the letter says. “Entrust your affairs to the wise, not the wily. Make sure your politicians understand that the world has changed.”
They’re clearly paying as much attention to the polls as Trump is. Polls, Dear Reader, are indeed his Achilles heel.
Then they did the most Trumpian thing ever: Attempted to rebrand their slogan “death to America.”
“Death to America … does not in any way express any ill will toward the American people, who have themselves suffered from the same oppression,” it says. “‘Death to America’ is a prayer for the eradication of the diabolical ruling elite whose seat of power is the White House. It is a cry born of the pain of oppression. Do the oppressed not have the right to wish death upon the evil oppressors responsible for killing their brothers, sisters, parents, and children, for plundering their natural resources, and for denigrating their millennia-old cultural heritage?”
“Oppression”? You going woke on me, IRGC?
The statement is cloaked cleverly both in the language of oppression (for the left) and disdain for elites in Washington (for the right).
Trump’s response was to say what he’s been saying all year: Make a deal or die in fire. (Kind of love it, actually, but that’s me.)
Here’s how it went down with the press:
Q: “You describe the Iranians as crazy. How do you get a deal done with crazy people?”
Trump: “Maybe you blow them up. We have to make that decision. We blow them up or make a deal. The time is coming. It’s gonna end very soon.”
VERY SOON, Dear Reader. How many times have we heard that?
Well, I counted. March 9, he said the war would end “very soon.” April 6, and then June 8, he dropped a couple “very soon(s).” Sept. 18, in the office, he dropped the very and just went with “soon.” He re-added the “very” in three “very soon” statements spanning Sept. 27-28. Then on Sept. 30 he hit us with the rare double very soon: “you’ll see things happening very soon” and “It’s going to end very soon, one way or another.”
I’m all for winning wars. I have the guts to go the distance. Don’t get me wrong. I’m no doomer here. If anything, I’m an optimist.
I’m also a realist, however, about prospects in this upcoming election. I think Trump is, too. Very soon might not be soon enough.
As my colleague Amber Duke covered in today’s “Unfit to Print,” National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Tim Scott spent 30 minutes outlining his strategy for holding the upper chamber, and not a single reporter asked how the war in Iran was playing a role.
So I wouldn’t be surprised one way or another. Even though they’re his biggest weakness, Trump, of all people, knows polls are wrong all the time.
But which way are they wrong this time?

You people need to get a Grip
Yes, you are a doomer. This is very disappointing from a site that often has intelligent analysis. This is not it. Keep spewing Iranian nonsense and DSA bs to do what - encourage people to give up? By the way, I actually listened to the supposed audio of Ken Paxton dissing the midterm convention. It was played on Newsman last night by Greg Kelly.. I would bet you didn't bother to try listen to it. It is almost impossible to hear what Paxton is saying or even what he is being asked. "Numbers went down" - what numbers? Fund raising? Donors? Appearances? No clue what he is talking about but to the extent you can make out the words there is no clue. Listen to it. And stop taking the NYT version of their interpretation of what they would like you to doom and gloom about it so they can say - yes- even the conservative sites think that Trump is losing. Sick of tis crap. It is to helpful. I realize you need to say SOMETHING - just like 24/7 news needs to make up crap but do you think you are helping??
