Welcome back to State of the Day, where I strip the euphemism off the day’s news and give it to you straight — no ice, no mixer.
Did you guys hear about Trump’s latest? He ended a “genocide.”
DONALD TRUMP, PEACEMAKER
Hostilities between Israel and Hamas have ceased (for now). Israeli hostages have been returned (again). It’s peace in the Middle East (again … for now).
At the center of it, President Donald Trump, who through strength, bravado and straight-up risk, cobbled together an Arab and Israeli coalition to bring about the conditions for ceasefire.
Listen to The Washington Post’s David Ignatius, a foreign policy elite who despises Trump, lay it all out on Morning Joe:
“The deal that President Trump is announcing, that he played a key part in negotiating, is a significant change. This war was blocked for two years. President Biden, who preceded him, was unable to find a way to stop it. President Trump found that way by being tough on both sides. He’ll take a victory lap for sure over the next few days, but it’s deserved. There’s no way that I can see that this could be done without Trump’s pressure in the final hours.”
Holy crap. That was unequivocal.
Oddly, the only Democratic official capable of issuing a sane response to Trump’s achievement has been Billy Clinton. Is he the last remaining sane Democrat?
Where is all the ballyhoo? Why aren’t there parades in the streets? Why is Trump not instantaneously a beloved figure among the campus purple-hairs and nose-ringed activists?
Why? Did he not end the “genocide” you have been on about these past months?
Well, Dear Reader, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but … it was never about the “genocide.” More aptly, they don’t really care about Gazan people. They never cared.
They only cared insofar as the deaths of those people served as ammunition. And for what exactly?
Well, now you’ve gotten to the very root of my own personal choice to support Israel. I know it’s become tenuous of late. Even I can admit my patience is wearing thin for the little brother that’s constantly rabble-rousing when all I want to do is drink in peace.
I don’t want to get too academic on you, so let me just assert flatly. Predominant American leftism in its current state only cares about one thing: Upending Western civilization and replacing it with its brand of Marxism 2.0 – hyperracialism, decolonialism, transgenderism, an end to merit, an end of wealth and property, an end to liberty in its purest form.
If you want any sense of how this elite will rule, its chosen intellectual vanguard will regard you and any patriot as a dog sitting in the corner for hours on end, to be blithely zapped into obedience should you stray from party lines. We’ve seen just a taste of it over the last 10 years.
Therefore, symbols must be protected.
Whether you agree or not that Israel is a symbol of western civilization is irrelevant. I would be one who would kind of disagree. All that matters is that the left’s most militant, aggressive, and ascendant worldview believes it is, so it must be torn down.
Look no further than their harassment of hapless and innocent Jews on college campuses. Just as every white man in America must bear the cost for sins he did not commit, their penchant for projected guilt knows no bounds.
You can extrapolate this political posture to almost any liberal cause du jour.
Do you really think lefty intellectuals give a damn about trafficked Hispanic girls? Are any of social media’s most vocal immigration activists housing illegals? Employing them for sure, but housing them as a form of charity?
Do they care about the outcomes of black people they advance to school seats and positions in which they might not actually be prepared to succeed? Or are they just diversity statistics boasted about at Georgetown dinner parties?
Do they actually care about the confused children they mutilate and castrate? Until recently, it was hard to find any serious attempt to track long-term outcomes past self-reported data. They don’t really care. All that matters is the end, which in the case of transgenderism, the ideology entails a complete takeover of your ability to say and therefore believe the self-evident truth.
It’s about using grievance to gain the power to unmake and make at will. They are simply a tool, real or imaginary, to achieve that end. They are only ever given merit as aggrieved inasmuch as they are effective.
You won’t see so much as a tear from the genocide protesters over the plight of the Uyghurs; that much is for sure.
That’s why you don’t hear any cheers.
Donald Trump ended a “genocide,” and in so doing, he took their weapon away.
