Greetings, Dear Reader,
I hate to be doom and gloom on y’all, but I also refuse to be anything other than completely honest. You also know I’m no friend of euphemism. If it’s blood and guts, well then by God I’ll say it.
So what am I getting at exactly?
Well, did you hear …
WHERE WE’RE HEADED
A man was arrested with 200 “viable” explosives on Sunday. His target was a Catholic Mass known to be routinely attended by SCOTUS justices. Police found a manifesto expressing hatred for Christians, the Supreme Court, Jews and ICE.
It would have added to the 500+ attacks on churches since Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Within earshot of this arrest, the transgender would-be assassin of Justice Kavanaugh got leniency from a Biden-appointed judge. The judge, Deborah Boardman, sentenced the assassin to just eight years instead of the 30 recommended. The primary consideration was that the assassin identifies as transgender.
All this week, the public has witnessed astonishing behavior from authorities in Portland and Illinois. Violent members of Antifa in Portland commit crimes in plain view of police officers with impunity. Worse, they assault conservative reporters and police choose to arrest or blame the reporters.
You won’t see any pearl-clutching in coastal media newsrooms about the First Amendment implications of police arresting reporters who have been physically assaulted. They simply don’t count as “real” reporters. Also, “Antifa is just an idea,” they say.
In Chicago, the mayor has actually vowed not to clear his streets of violent illegal aliens. The citizen population is violent enough as it is, without the additional threat of cartels and criminal illegals. He has vowed to deploy further anti-ICE measures in “sanctuary” areas of the city. I wonder if the residents in those areas consider them a sanctuary?
Weeks earlier, another mayor in Illinois admitted he gave illegals early warning of incoming ICE raids.
Meanwhile, since the assassination of Charlie Kirk, TPUSA and other conservative organizations are having more trouble than usual holding events on college campuses. College administrators keep telling them that their events represent a unique security concern. The why behind that concern goes entirely unspoken, but not here: It’s because violent campus leftists intend to get violent, and administrators are not keen to show them fair justice.
All of this is a far cry from when Democrats held the hammer. They were arresting pastors for praying. They were routinely door-knocking churches for holding Mass during lockdown. They prosecuted people for things they said on social media. They arrested folks for taking their kids to parks during COVID. They penalized Trump in civil court over a story most everyone involved believed was entirely made up. NYC DA Alvin Bragg upgraded lapsed misdemeanor charges to felonies in order to prosecute and convict Trump.
But he dropped the charges against a pro-abortion activist who assaulted a conservative reporter on camera in broad daylight.
And it isn’t just political friendlies Democrats let off easy. The list of violent, repeat offenders who go on to assault, menace and even kill normal citizens seems to grow by the day. Often these guys have been let out by a reformed criminal justice system that increasingly sees itself as a “systemically racist” oppressor, rather than the protector of productive citizens.
So where are we headed? I don’t necessarily buy into the civil war hype, but it seems more plausible by the day. Trust in institutions is at an all-time low. Division is at a high. Certain far-left elements of society feel like they can summarily veto the law due to the misperception that they’re on the “right side of history.” The people in charge do almost nothing to disabuse them of that notion.
And the cycle repeats, except each revolution gets even more violent, with more casualties, more destruction and more suffering.
Reagan famously said the idea of America was always just “one generation away from annihilation.”
I’m beginning to feel like it might be upon us in some ways. One side of the war over culture, law, justice and the soul of America is evidently delusional. They favor criminals, non-citizens, and an inverted worldview where justice, success, and even power are bequeathed based on immutable traits or, at the very least, Right Think politics.
The other side still holds basic ideals about America closest to the heart. Fairness, freedom to speak and think, faith, competitive spirit, merit. These are not just punchlines to them, but bricks in the foundation of the country.
Up until now, the naive idealism of the latter side has prevented a full embrace of more violent answers. Conservatives are still documenting injustices and violence in broad daylight and expecting authorities to step in, perhaps foolishly, but they’re still doing it.
And yet, with each murder, each injustice, each failed or successful plot, each lenient sentence in the face of overwhelming evidence, each time we see special treatment of militant elements of the left, for every girl who’s murdered at a university, on a run, during a commute, that naiveté gives way to simmering cynicism. And that cynicism can birth a rageful desire to fully dismantle the wayward institutions that wrought this form of justice.
I don’t know ultimately how it will all play out, Dear Reader. I don’t want to see federal troops storming cities en masse. Is it possible? Pam Bondi basically promised to flood some Democrat-run cities with feds. And, should that happen, will local authorities and local militants take up arms against them?
The potential for this all to spiral I don’t think is truly appreciated by the people in power. Tensions are high. One match, as they say, could be all it takes.
Some people think more violence is inevitable. I’m one of those people. Others think it might turn into more full-blown and organized violence. I deeply hope not. I pray not.
One thing I do predict with confidence, though, is that we’ll win, one way or another. There are many tangible and intangible reasons why I think we’ll win. Maybe I’ll outline them in a future edition of SOTD.
For now, I’ll just say there’s something more to the so-called “vibe shift.” It’s not just memes and punchy jokes. It’s not just among the “too online.” People are tired of the nonsense. They want a restoration. They believe. It’s truly a belief. It’s spreading.
The neo-Marxist drivel that spilled out of universities and took over the heights of media, politics, corporate America and criminal justice is plainly incompatible with America. People didn’t like it before, even at its most powerful and their most deferential. The difference now is that they feel capable enough to reject it wholesale. The deference has evaporated.
Let’s hope that’s all it takes. Either way, with or without more blood, it won’t last.
How many bodies fall in the interim is the unknown that truly worries me.
