THE SHRINKS NEED A SHRINK

The American Psychological Association has elected its next president and her resume offers a pretty good explanation for why more Americans are viewing therapists as political activists with chaise lounges.

Dr. Candice Hargons, a tenured Emory University professor and licensed psychologist, was elected Monday to lead the APA, the country’s largest professional organization for psychologists. She will serve as president-elect in 2027 before taking over as president in 2028.

The announcement video describes Hargon’s work as “advancing liberation-oriented approaches to research, practice and community care.”
