The U.S. military pulls off an Easter miracle, violent juveniles run rampant in the nation’s capital, Trump endorses in the California governor’s race, and more.
A DARING RESCUE
Just eight minutes after midnight on Easter Sunday, President Donald Trump delivered a message to America:
“WE GOT HIM!”
The second crew member on the F-15 fighter jet that was shot down over Iran last week was recovered “safe and sound.”
Early reports on the rescue mission to save the weapons systems officer from the Iranian mountains sound like something out of a movie.
The colonel was reportedly wounded after ejecting from the downed jet but was able to make contact with the U.S. His first words were, “God is good.”
The CIA bought time by launching a deception campaign, ensuring Iran was fed false intel that the U.S. had already found him and was preparing extrication.
Once the CIA got his location, they shared that information with the Pentagon, the White House, and the U.S. military.
The colonel had evaded capture by Iranian forces for more than a day, hiking more than a mile up a ridgeline and eventually hiding in a mountain crevice.
Then it was U.S. special forces’ turn. With the aid of heavy cover fire, the extraction team was able to successfully move to the colonel’s location and safely get him out of the country.
He is currently being treated for his injuries.
Former Obama DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson praised the rescue mission, calling it “more complicated than the Bin Laden operation.”
Later Sunday morning, Trump issued another Truth Social post warning Iran that the U.S. would hit its critical infrastructure if it didn’t reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” Trump wrote.
DC TEEN NIGHT GOES SIDEWAYS
Roving gangs of violent teenagers have terrorized the nation’s capital in recent weeks, leading the D.C. police chief to institute curfew zones in various Washington, D.C., neighborhoods.
Some leaders in the city, though, had different ideas on how to stop these groups of hundreds of teens from fighting and shooting each other. The District’s Department of Parks and Recreation sponsored a “Spring Teen Jam” in Southwest with sports, karaoke, and dancing to try to keep the youth out of trouble.
Instead, the night ended with more chaos.
At least eight teens were arrested Saturday night, police said, as fights erupted in the surrounding areas. Teens allegedly attacked officers who attempted to break up the fights.
“They was fighting in the street, in the middle of the street. They just jumped off the bikes and just start fighting,” one neighbor told WUSA 9.
Another said, “It’s too many kids down here. It’s not enough people to control the kids.”
DC Parks and Rec insisted the Spring Teen Jam was a success because the rowdy and violent teens outside the event were not allowed in:
“The Teen Spring Jam at King Greenleaf Recreation Center was a safe and successful event. Over 1,000 young people participated in a peaceful, enjoyable evening on Saturday, which ended as scheduled at 10 pm.
A small number of individuals on the perimeter declined to follow our safety guidelines and were not admitted. Any disturbances occurred outside the event and had no impact on those inside.”
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’
President Donald Trump endorsed former Fox News host Steve Hilton in the California governor’s race on Monday … and Republicans are crying foul.
California has a unique primary system in which candidates from every party run on the same ballot and the top two advance to a runoff.
Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco are running as Republicans. Then there are eight viable Democrat candidates, including Rep. Eric Swalwell, former Rep. Katie Porter, and billionaire Tom Steyer.
In the past few months, polls have shown that Democrats are at serious risk of splitting the vote so much that Hilton and Bianco end up the top two candidates. That would guarantee a Republican governor in California.
Returning to the Trump endorsement…
If Republicans coalesce around Hilton, that could diminish Bianco’s chances of finishing in the top two. Hilton would thus square off against a Democrat and be far less likely to emerge victorious in November.
DATA CENTERS COME FOR TRAILER PARKS
Residents in Mason County, Kentucky, are the latest victims of the data center takeover in rural America.
People in Meadowland Village, a mobile home community, were told they have just three months to vacate as a Fortune 50 company looks to build a data center on the land.
Residents are being offered up to $20,000 in moving expenses, but they say the money is not guaranteed and that there are few nearby locations with available space for their trailers. Individuals who may be forced out by the data center include a pastor, a man battling kidney disease, and a number of elderly residents.
Data centers and the impact they have on energy prices and local communities stand to be a major area of concern for Americans that cuts across partisan lines. A Politico poll found that Americans flip on support for data centers being built in their area if it would increase their monthly energy bills between $10 and $25.
Only 37% said they would support or strongly support a new data center being built within three miles of their home; compare that to housing, low-income housing, highways, universities, and delivery warehouses, all of which at least 50% of Americans said they would support being built near their home.
