Democrat Washington Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has built a brand around noticing — and doing something about — the everyday headaches that politicians typically ignore.
Her latest idea, which is quickly garnering attention on social media, is to allow Congress to put pictures in legislation.
It’s almost comically simple. Rather than employing tortured language to describe a mechanical part, road configuration, or some other physical object, legislators should just be able to plop an image or diagram into the bill text.
Kind of amazing that no one has thought of this before.
And that’s kind of the entire point.
Congress spends a lot of time thinking through the technical and theoretical aspects of the laws it writes — and making sure the concerns of industry lobbyists are addressed — but a lot less time considering how those laws actually work in real life.
