Hey y’all, welcome back to Unfit to Print.
The Trump admin has started firing bureaucrats during the government shutdown. It’s a good start, but it needs to go even further.
FIRE THEM FASTER
OMB Director Russ Vought warned Democrats that if they shut down the government — refusing to support a clean continuing resolution — there would be hell to pay. He would start Reduction in Force (RIF) measures, laying off government workers by the thousands. Not furloughed with back pay, but straight-up FIRED.

The RIFs started on Friday, and according to a recent court filing, more than 4,100 workers have officially been axed.
A spokesperson for the OMB told the Daily Caller that the number is just a “snapshot” of the firings that have taken place thus far and “more are coming.”
They must follow through on that promise. Vought is said to have been preparing for his RIF plan in the event of a shutdown for ages. As Rachel Bovard, vice president of the Conservative Partnership Institute, said, “Russ has been working on this type of plan for the government since a lot of these staff were in diapers.”
So there should be no reason they can’t slam down the gas pedal. RIFs have been used several times throughout history, including one of the largest efforts following World War II. Most recently, though, Democratic President Bill Clinton cut approximately 426,200 federal jobs between 1993 and 2000, according to National Performance Review (NPR) leader Elaine Kamarck.
Trump is said to have fired about 200,000 people from the federal workforce since taking office. But he is also starting with almost a million more workers than Clinton did when he implemented the NPR. And Trump only has one term left, not two.
We need to pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.
Democrats are pulling out the emotional blackmail, calling the Trump admin heartless for laying people off. Sorry, but the federal government is not a jobs program. There should be no waste of taxpayer money on redundant positions, unqualified employees, and saboteurs.
I have been speaking to both careerists and political appointees since the start of the admin and have been horrified by the stories of malice and straight-up ineptitude among the federal bureaucracy. There are employees who list a skill on a resume and actually have no idea how to perform said skill. Employees who ignore commands from their new bosses. Employees who haven’t spent one day in the office in years. Employees who think they are immune from consequences. Employees who won’t even answer an email or a phone call. I heard an estimate recently that in one department, roughly four in five employees are not competent enough to perform their job duties.
They. All. Need. To. Go.
The Trump admin must take advantage of this rare opportunity. There are people in the administration who take it very, very seriously — I know, I have met them. But every single Cabinet secretary, department head, and the like has to get on board. We have no time to waste.
