Unfit to Print: REPUBLICANS POUNCE ON MURDER BEING BAD
(Originally posted 10/7/25)
Hey y’all, welcome back to Unfit to Print.
The No. 1 liberal media rule for Democratic scandals is that it’s not actually about the scandal, but the Republican response.
REPUBLICANS POUNCE ON MURDER BEING BAD
We got our first “Republicans pounce” headline in the Jay Jones saga.
As a quick refresher, Jones, the Democratic candidate running for attorney general in Virginia, fantasized in 2022 texts about putting a bullet in the head of then-Republican Speaker of the House Todd Gilbert. He also insinuated that his children should die in their mothers’ arms so that Gilbert would be persuaded to change his political positions.
A later interview with Republican Del. Carrie Coyner, the same woman who received the aforementioned texts, revealed that Jones also allegedly wished death on police officers so that they would “move on, not shooting people, not killing people.”
The Democratic nominee encouraging murder against his political opponents has received a light touch from the liberal media and from Jones’ Democratic colleagues.
WTOP reported Monday, “Trump’s GOP seizes on violent rhetoric from Virginia AG candidate as high-stakes elections loom.”
Ah yes, Republicans SEIZED on a Democrat salivating over the idea of political violence.
The responses from Democrats in Virginia were similar, including Jones himself, who accused his opponent, Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares, of “dropping smears through Trump-controlled media organizations” (um, National Review? Seriously?) to “assault my character and rescue his desperate campaign” (the poll we reported on here last week had the race tied).
“This is a strategy that ensures Jason Miyares will continue to be accountable to Trump, not the people of Virginia,” Jones adds.
Reporter Nick Minock points out, “Jay Jones’ first statement mentions ‘Trump’ more times than the words ‘I’m sorry Todd Gilbert.’”
A joint statement from Democrat state Sens. Louise Lucas — the Virginia Senate president pro tempore — and Mamie Locke — the chair of the Virginia Senate Democrats — ”condemned” Jones’ texts but made very clear they will not do anything about it. They don’t call for him to drop out; they praise his character AND they tell Virginians they must still vote for him.
“Our rights, our democracy, and our future are on the line. Jay Jones has the strength, experience, and values to put Virginians first and stand up to Donald Trump. That is why we remain united in our support for Jay,” they say.
Do those values include putting two bullets in a Republican’s head before Hitler or Pol Pot?
Sen. Mark Warner implied that Jones might not have made the comments at all — despite the fact he admitted to sending the texts. Warner writes in his statement on the matter, “Political disagreements must be resolved through debate and elections, not through threats or violence. The comments attributed to Jay Jones are appalling, unacceptable, and inconsistent with the person I’ve known.”
“Attributed to”?
When confronted by a reporter, Warner refused to comment and did not answer questions asking if he would condemn political violence.
Miyares said of Jones’ statement, “I don’t accept his apology.”
Good. No one believes Jones is sorry. None of them are sorry.
Democrats spent all of two seconds allowing Republicans to grieve the assassination of Charlie Kirk before they went on the House floor to smear his character, denied that people were celebrating Kirk’s murder, and AGAIN tried to reframe the story around Republicans’ response. They fretted about “free speech” when private companies decided to cut ties with employees who lied about Kirk or cheered on the assassin.
At the same time, liberal media reporters described domestic terrorists who attacked journalists and assaulted and attempted to kill ICE agents as “demonstrators.” Democrats continue to try to “unmask” ICE agents as they get doxxed, stalked, rammed, and shot at.
A quarter of liberals think political violence is justified. Democrats aren’t telling their base to “tone down” the rhetoric or the attacks on conservatives – they just finger wag at the right and pretend we “fascists” are the problem.
