A wise, stubborn daughter of Appalachia references Scarlett O’Hara from Gone with the Wind as she explains her refusal to sell family farmland to a mysterious developer for an eye-watering sum north of $25 million:

Her spirit never would die. That’s the exact same thing for me right here. As long as I’m on this land — as long as it’s feeding me — as long as it’s taking care of me — there’s nothing that can destroy me if I’ve got this land.

This woman’s name is Delsia Bare, daughter of the plucky Kentuckian Ida Huddleston.

Together, they are taking a stand, showing some iron-clad spine, in spite of an eight-figure offer. As are other Americans, all across the country.

An unbridled spirit is awakened. A revolution of sorts is stirring. The Gadsden snake is rearing its lovely head.
