Hey y’all, welcome back to another bonus edition of Unfit to Print.
I’ve seen some folks online mocking the ICE agent who fatally shot the Minneapolis woman for essentially “being scared of a car that was near him.”
Never mind the car *did* hit him … and getting struck by a vehicle is no joke.
I know because it happened to me.
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO GET HIT BY A CAR
This was not the ICE agent’s first rodeo. Earlier this summer he was struck by a different anti-ICE protester’s car and was dragged 100 yards down the road, suffering serious injuries and requiring 33 stitches on a gash in his arm.
I can only imagine how terrifying that incident was … and how it informed the ICE agent’s split-second decision-making when he fired those shots into the car of the 37-year-old woman who accelerated toward him.
Unfortunately, I have some experience on the matter.
In September 2020, I went to Target to pick up a few toiletries for my apartment. As I was walking home, I stopped briefly at an intersection to wait for the crossing sign to change. A few seconds after the “walk” signal flashed, I entered the crosswalk.
I only made it a few steps before a car making a right turn on red hit me from my left side.
I flew backwards and felt my head bounce off the pavement like a basketball.
