Let's get right to it this morning.
DOES NBC NEWS SUPPORT THE GROOMING OF MINORS?
Reading the copy of NBC’s story on a Texas law, and then reading the law itself, should generate substantial questions.
First, the most obvious and charged question: Does NBC support the sexual grooming of minors?
In her write-up covering a “Reagan-appointed” judge striking down Texas SB12, NBC News’ Raquel Coronell Uribe mentions “drag” five times and gives children and minors zero mention. The issue with that is that the law – designed to limit “sexually oriented performances” to adult audiences – itself does the exact opposite. It mentions drag zero times and children five times.
Does NBC News have editors?
Here’s how Uribe describes the law:
The state law would fine business owners who were found to be in violation up to $10,000 for hosting events, while performers could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which could result in up to one year of jail time.
IF … IF … IF the event allowed access for children. The copy above is an absolute clinic for how the media lies to and misleads its audience. It’s technically true. People violating the law could be fined and performers could in fact be imprisoned for a year.
But, NBC News left out the crucial hinge: if the venue did not check IDs at the door.
(a) A person who controls the premises of a commercial
enterprise may not allow a sexually oriented performance to be
presented on the premises in the presence of an individual younger
than 18 years of age.
(b) A person who violates this section is liable to this
state for a civil penalty of not more than $10,000 for each
violation.
AND
(c) A municipality or county may not authorize a sexually
oriented performance:
(1) on public property; or
(2) in the presence of an individual younger than 18
years of age.
Is the welfare of children not worth mentioning on NBC News? Is it because it’s Republicans who are concerned about it? Or is it just NBC News is allied with mentally ill men who want to perform sexual acts in front of children?
Even while I disagree with the judge’s ruling, the outlet and writer also criminally misrepresented it. She wrote that his advice for those who found such acts “offensive” was to “simply not go.” Again, technically true, but misleading by omission.
On a technical level, he found that the law’s definition of sexual acts was overly broad and could include risque acts like (lol) Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley and Miley Cyrus.
I’m sorry, but Miley Cyrus’s acts are in fact not appropriate for children. Have we completely lost our marbles?
The judge’s ruling that such a law could foul up routine country performances is a bit of a stretch. Texas will appeal the decision and will likely win (hopefully).
In the meantime, while NBC News apparently refuses to quote a supporter of such measures – of which there are literally hundreds of prominent voices – it instead decides to quote local freakshow “Brigitte Bandit.”
Bandit is, for what it’s worth, an odd drag queen who’s an actual woman and also a mentally unhinged lunatic. She’s known most recently for celebrating and justifying Charlie Kirk’s assassination and also saying “kids are safer at drag story hour than at church.”
Her shows have such vanilla titles as “Big Tits Bigger Dreams” and “Titty Tournament.”
This is what NBC News wants for your kids.
