We have a short edition today as I am traveling out of town for the weekend, but this story is just too crazy not to bring to your attention.
FEET TO THE FIRE
Ten months after Los Angeles was hit by a deadly wildfire — which nearly every Democrat blamed on climate change — a suspect has been arrested for arson.
Jonathan Rinderknecht, 29, is an Uber driver and former resident of the area, prosecutors claim. They say Rinderknecht deliberately set a fire in the Santa Monica Mountains after listening to a French rap song featuring a pyromaniac. He called authorities to put out the fire and then shot videos of the emergency response (classic pyro behavior).
Rinderknecht was supposedly obsessed with fire, creating ChatGPT images of a fire burning as poor people fled and rich people hid behind their gates. He told friends he had burned a Bible, and it made him feel “liberated” (remember that spiritual warfare we were talking about here a few weeks ago?).
The “Lachman Fire,” as it was known, consumed eight acres before firefighters were able to extinguish it — or so they thought. Embers underneath the dense vegetation continued to smolder and were picked up by heavy winds a week later, ultimately sparking the deadly and destructive Palisades Fire.
You’ll notice I bolded the words “dense vegetation” above. Why did I do that? Because evidence of arson does not absolve California leaders of their fire mismanagement. Controlled burns are prescribed precisely to clear out dry undergrowth in wooded areas that can catch fire quickly and burn almost uncontrollably. But California consistently failed to meet its annual prescribed burn goals.
Naturally, it’s also difficult to put out those underbrush fires if you pump a bunch of available water into the sea to save a tiny fish or if you leave an entire reservoir empty.
In short: Democrats blamed climate change for a fire started by a creepy pyro, created the conditions for the fire to spread, and failed to provide authorities with the resources to put it out.
